In the wake of extensive and ongoing problems in the postal system, particularly affecting delivery and receipt of ballot papers across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, the NUJ’s Emergency Committee has taken the decision to re-run the election via a digital ballot.
If you do not receive an electronic ballot, first check your email Spam folders, and contact the Dublin or London NUJ offices if your email contact information is out of date.
The union’s over-riding priority is to ensure that all eligible members are afforded equal opportunity to vote and participate in this important election – your opportunity to determine who will take up the part time position editing the union’s journal.
All previously-cast votes have been securely disposed of by Civica Election Services, who are running the ballot on our behalf. If you have previously cast your vote please ensure you now vote again online – votes previously submitted will not count.
A further decision was taken by the Emergency Committee regarding a candidate, Samantha Downes, whose application had not been considered by the union for shortlisting as it had been blocked as spam and not received. Given the fresh ballot, and the fact that her application met the eligibility criteria, it was agreed that she would be shortlisted and included in the new ballot with other shortlisted candidates.
Please read the revised election statements of all candidates and their associated campaign materials before casting your vote. These are available on the voting site.
This new ballot, opening on Tuesday 13th August, will close on Thursday 5th September at noon. The union’s National Executive Committee will meet to receive and endorse the results on Friday 6th September at 10am – full results will then be listed on our website.
