The National Union of Journalists has written to the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media, Catherine Martin, seeking publication of the report of the Future of Media Commission.
The report was furnished to the Minister in September.
At a meeting of the Irish Executive Council members also expressed disappointment at the absence of measures to assist the media in Budget 2021.
In a letter to Ms Martin Séamus Dooley, Irish Secretary said:
“Given the enormous challenges facing the media in Ireland it is important that the government gives priority to the report. At this stage it would be useful to know when the report will go to cabinet, when will it be published and what is the proposed process of consultation following publication.
The IEC also requested me to convey grave disappointed at the absence in Budget 2021 of any practical, financial measures to assist in the recovery of the Irish media, a vital sector of the economy.
Can you also clarify if budgetary provision has been made for funding of any measures recommended in the Commission report.”
