The Mary Raftery Journalism Fund was established by the family and friends of campaigning investigative journalist Mary Raftery, who died in January 2012. The aim of the fund is to promote more in-depth investigative coverage of issues close to Mary’s heart and on which she focused her groundbreaking investigative work, namely: mental health, migrant issues and children’s rights. The fund offers an opportunity for journalists to carry out detailed investigations into these areas of Irish society and to expose any injustices that might exist.
There are three individual funding rounds during 2012 / 2013. Applications for the second round, under the theme of migrant issues, are now being accepted from all strands of media. The fund is supported – for the coming months – by The One Foundation.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to read the fund guidelines and frequently asked questions before applying. Visit www.maryrafteryfund.ie/how-to-apply/ for further information on the application process and to download an application form.
