Reporters Lives on the Line: how does International Humanitarian Law protect journalists reporting from conflict zones?
25 October, 9.30am – 1.45pm, followed by reception.
Camden Court Hotel, Camden Street, Dublin 2
Journalists play an important role in contributing to public knowledge and understanding of the humanitarian consequences of armed conflict. However, reporting from a ‘war-zone’ is a hazardous task and today’s journalists work in increasingly complex and dangerous operational environments.
The Irish Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) invite you to join us for our annual International Humanitarian Law Conference, which will examine in depth the protections afforded to journalists and media personnel reporting from the front lines of contemporary armed conflicts.
Speakers will include:
Shona Murray, Newstalk Journalist
Fergal Keane, RTE Journalist
Declan Power, Security and Defence Analyst
Sarah Cotton, Public Affairs and Communications Advisor, ICRC
Louise Sarsfield Collins, Irish Red Cross IHL Dissemination Officer
and other specialist speakers
Participation is free but registration is essential to guarantee a place. Please contact: ihlconference2012@redcross.ie for more information or to register.
