Location: Bridge Street, Tullamore
Event: To mark the closure of the Offaly Express a symbolic event is being held at the offices of the newspaper at Bridge Street, Tullamore, from 5.30pm to 6.00pm, as the last edition is put to bed.
A piper will pay a lament to mark the occasion.
Among the guests will be Barry McCall, Vice President, National Union of Journalists and colleagues Gerry Curran, Cathaoirleach, Irish Executive Council, Conor McHugh, Midlands branch chairman, Nicola Coleman, Irish Organiser and Séamus Dooley, Irish Secretary.
At 6pm a reception will be held in the Millennium Room, Bridge House, hosted by the NUJ. Local community leaders and former staff will attend to toast the Offaly Express and those who contributed to the newspaper since 1984.
The event will conclude at 7pm.
